Current Safety School Changes due to COVID-19

Please feel free to review SwimRVA’s Reopening Guide and Instruction V6.

All lifeguard candidates need to bring a buddy to class from within their direct contact circle. Lifeguard classes require close contact between training partners. Much of this time training partners are exercising heavily, where contact cannot be mitigated. We are using water mannequins as a training tool, but all candidates will need to bring a buddy to the class from within their contact circle. The buddy must attend all class days and times.

Your buddy can take the full lifeguard class, they could qualify for a Junior Lifeguard certification, they could qualify for various CPR and First Aid certifications on their own, or just take the class as your buddy (at no cost). So many options, please ask for details.

Minimum qualifications for partner:

For both candidate and buddy, you will need close fitting gloves that can get wet like Gorilla Gloves or gardening type gloves. There is a real shortage of medical gloves and these will make a great substitute for training. You will need a copy of the American Red Cross lifeguarding manual in class, either on a laptop, a tablet, or printed copy. You can print at home or we can print one for you for $20.
