What the PUPS Program Will Teach You

How to:  read a practice, use the equipment, use the pace clock, do drills, swim with others in a group, and much more!

What to Bring to Class

The PUPS program will provide a great learning experience for adult swimmers.  We suggest bringing your swim suit, goggles, a towel, and a note pad.  SwimRVA offers men’s and women’s locker rooms so you can change and shower after the workout.  You can store your belongings in and ope locker for the day.  You will have to provide your own lock.

Coaches Glossary of Terms

Please also take a look at our Glossary of Drills, Terms and Abbreviations before coming to your first practice.  This will make your experience with the program much more enjoyable and will help in your discussions with the coaches.

CSS Calculator

This is not required for the PUPS program but a great tool for all adult swimmers.

Please fill out our form to get your Critical Swim Speed (CSS) and estimate your ideal swim speed training levels.

A Critical Swim Speed test is a simple way to measure your swim fitness. It estimates the pace per 100 that you would keep during a 1500 meter or yard time trial. To test your CSS pace, you should swim a 400 and 200 yard time trial within the same session, with a five-minute active recovery between, and time yourself for both.  Click the link to record your times.
