SwimRVA’s Clover Cup and Shamrock Showdown Make Waves in Richmond’s Growing Sports Tourism Scene

SwimRVA’s clover-inspired doubleheader is back for another year, as Clover Cup begins this weekend from March 20-22 followed by Shamrock Showdown running March 26-29. Between the two competitions, 1,150 athletes are set to travel to SwimRVA from across the East Coast, spanning from North Carolina up to Rhode Island. Three of the top four teams in the US from this short course season, NCAP, SwimMAC Carolina, and NOVA, will be attending at least one of the two meets.

In only its second year, Clover Cup has experienced strong growth, expanding from 450 to 650 participants over three days of competition, which features both prelims and final opportunities for swimmers aged 12 and under. Meanwhile, the Shamrock Showdown has established itself as a premier end-of-season destination for clubs across the East Coast and is set to deliver high-level performances across its four-day schedule for 13 and over swimmers. At last year’s meet, multiple records were broken and several swimmers posted top-10 times for the season in their respective age groups. Ten club teams will compete in both events, entering their 12-and-under athletes in Clover Cup and their 13-and-over swimmers in Shamrock Showdown.

Richmond has emerged as a premier tourism destination, boosted by the incredible growth in sports and aquatic competition. SwimRVA drives approximately $7 million in annual economic impact through its competitions. By hosting two high-caliber meets designed for swimmers of all levels, SwimRVA aims to promote health and fitness, expand sports tourism, elevate competitive aquatics, and create opportunities for everyone.
