What if I am an adult and do not know how to swim yet?

First, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  In fact, 50% of the entire population does not know how to swim!  SwimRVA offers a station-based swim lesson program for adults on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 7-7:30PM.  You can start anytime, we will pro-rate the first month and it auto-renews on the first of every  month.  You can cancel anytime with no questions asked!

How many lessons should I take?

The number of private lessons you should take depends on how much you want to learn with a personal coach.  Please make sure you talk to your coach about your specific goals.

What equipment should I bring to my lessons?

To get the most out of your workouts we recommend purchasing goggles, fins, a pull bouy and paddles which you should bring to every practice.  However, please speak with your coach and see what is best to bring to your private instruction sessions.

I don't understand all of the terms that the coaches are using during training. What do they all mean?

Please also take a look at our Glossary of Drills, Terms and Abbreviations before coming to your first practice.  This will make your experience with the program much more enjoyable and will help in your discussions with the coaches.

Do I have to be a SwimRVA Hammerhead member to do private lessons?

No you do not.  However, you are welcome to join the Hammerheads anytime.  The SwimRVA Hammerheads membership is $70 per month.  You can start anytime and we will pro-rate the first month.  After that it will auto-draft on the first of every month.  You can cancel at the end of any month.  We ask a 14 day written notice.  To register for a membership please stop by our front desk.

Do I have to be a SwimRVA Hammerhead member to come swim with the team?

Yes and No.  We do have day passes and 10-visit passes available.  The day pass is $10 per visit or you can purchase a 10-visit pass for $90 (10% saving).  However, these passes DO NOT get you in for the Sunday morning Open Water training sessions.  You must be a member to participate in those.

OUT OF TOWNER:  Do you live 50-miles or more from Richmond but need a place to get in a workout while on the road?  Bring in one of your team caps and drop-in to one of our practices free of charge.  We’ll be happy to trade you one of ours

Do I need to be registered with U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS)?

You do NOT have to have a USMS membership to do private instruction.  If you decide to join the SwimRVA Hammerheads membership you will be required to be members of the United States Masters Swimming.  The cost to join is $50 per year.
