Located in Chesterfield County, SwimRVA serves the Greater Richmond area as a catalyst for regional aquatics and community-wide focus on water safety, health & fitness, sports tourism and competitive swimming.  We offer swimming lessons, water aerobics, aqua running, water polo, CPR & lifeguard certification courses, masters swimming, warm water therapy pool, land fitness classes, and youth triathlon training.

About Us

SwimRVA Swim School's 5 Core Values:

Age Groups:

SwimRVA Parent and Child:  Ages 6 months to 36 months (Infant Classes)

This wonderful class provides an opportunity for parents and babies and toddlers to learn the foundations and beginning progressions of breath control, floating, kicking, and safety together! We believe swimming is a lifelong skill that should be introduced at a very young age. This water orientation class is designed to teach you how to safely and effectively work with your child while using songs and games to create a fun and engaging environment. A parent must be in the water with their child for the duration of the class.

SwimRVA Preschool:  Ages 3 years to 5 years

Goal of Preschool:  To have students learning independent, sustainable movement in the water.

Station 1: Bubblers – Getting comfortable. This fun class is designed for swimmers who are not yet comfortable going under water on their own. Station 1 swimmers will focus on entering and exiting the water in a safe manner, as well as blowing bubbles, getting their faces wet, and submerging their body under water. Safety skills involve learning where and how to look for help in a pool setting.

Station 2: Floaters – Independence. This awesome class is designed for swimmers who are comfortable going underwater, but do not yet have floating or kicking skills.  Station 2 students will focus on rhythmic breath control, pushing off the wall and short distance kicks to the wall, as well as floating independently on their front and on their back. Safety skills involve learning how to reach the side of the pool.  Each student should be able to jump into the pool unassisted.

Station 3: Rollers – Pool Safety. This encouraging class is designed to teach all the students different safety techniques using their swimming skills.  Station 3 students will learn how to jump into the pool and surface, roll onto back, and yell for help.  They will also be able to locate and use the ladder or the side of the pool for safe entry and exit.  

Station 4: Kickers – Getting moving safely. This engaging class is designed for swimmers who are fairly independent in the water, but who need to work on kicking further distances.  Station 4 students will focus on longer floats, gliding, and kicking on their front and on their back for 5 yards independently. Safety skills involve sustaining their body in deeper water independently.

Station 5: Crawlers - Introduction to the 4 strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). This motivating class is designed for swimmers who are strong kickers on their front and need to learn legal freestyle and drills to begin piecing the other strokes together.  Station 5 students will focus on side kicking drills to prepare them for freestyle, legal freestyle, and drills for backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Safety skills involve treading water and getting back to the side of the pool safely.

SwimRVA School Age:  Ages 6-12 years

The SwimRVA Swim School 7-station curriculum offers students the opportunity to learn to swim in a fun, safe, and goal-driven environment.  Our coaches are trained to work with your swimmers to develop their skills using a station-based approach, ensuring that swimmers have the opportunity to continually progress at their own pace.  In doing so, they will make friends and learn skills that can save their life and provide a healthy lifelong activity.

Each swimmer will receive an advancement certificate to track progress.  Once all skills are learned in each station, your child will get a chance to ring the amazingly awesome success bell, have their name shouted to the rest of the class, and place a sticker on the station they just passed.  This positive reinforcement helps with encouraging themselves and other around them.  They will then immediately move to the next station. 

Station 1:  Skills include gradual water adaptation, movement in water, breath hold/release, submersion of face, open eyes underwater, blow bubbles, and wall bobs w/air exchange:  Testing to pass this station will include 10 relaxed wall bobs.

Station 2:  Skills include front float and recover, front glide and recover, back float and recover, back glide and recover, kicking skills, and streamline bobs.  Testing will include Front Glide/Back Glide with a 5 second recover.

Station 3:  Skills include porpoising, front kick/glide and recover, back kick/glide and recover, dolphin kick glide and recover, the see-saw, and scull on kick board.  Testing will include a front kick and a back kick for 15 feet.

Station 4:  Skills include the rollover, fining and sculling, side-glide-kick, crawl arm-stroke, backward bobs, front and back somersaults.  Testing will include a side-glide-kick for 20 feet and the crawl stroke for 20 feet

Station 5:  Skills include the crawl stroke with breathing, back crawl stroke, double somersaults, handstands, and the head first scull.  Testing will include the crawl stroke with 4 breaths for 30 feet.

Station 6:  Skills include the extended freestyle swim, treading water, jump in and tread, the sitting dive, the kneeling dive, and the standing dive.  Testing will include swimming freestyle for 75 feet, backstroke for 30 feet and tread water for 1 minute.

Station 7:  Skills learned include the breaststroke kick, breaststroke swim, butterfly arms, and the butterfly swim.  Testing will include swimming free for 50 yards, back for 25 yards and breaststroke kick for 20 feet.

SwimRVA Swim Team

Don’t swim on a year round club team? Our swim team will continue to aid your swimmer’s training goals and provide a great way to stay in shape during the school year. This program is designed for public, private, and home-schooled swimmers who love to swim but are not looking for a competitive atmosphere.  This is also geared toward swimmers who would like to brush up on their skills before the 2017-2018 school year swim season begins in November.  Perfect technique and increase endurance in all four strokes, as well as dry land workouts to increase strength. Previous summer league, club, or school team experience not required.

Adult Classes:  Ages 13 years +

This class will help you overcome a fear of the water and make you more comfortable in and around aquatic environments.  Utilizing the SwimRVA station-based curriculum, students will learn the basics of breath control, going underwater, floating, and kicking.  Once those skills are mastered the student is ready to learn the fundamentals of the four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as work on increasing swimming endurance.  Conquer your fear and lead a healthier lifestyle with swimming as part of your fitness goals.

READY FOR THE NEXT STEPS IN ADULT SWIMMING PROGRESSION?  

Peluso Open Water PUPS Program:  Ages 13+

 
   

This 6-week program is coached by the talented and experienced beginners coaching squad of Peulso Open Water. The program is designed to start you from scratch and ease you into a comprehensive swim program and get you ready for the more endurance based practices of the main Peluso Open Water pool program or to train on your own.

All sessions are set up to provide the best opportunity for teaching and explaining in a low-key, low-stress, judgement-free zone.

Private Lessons:  Ages 3 years +

Available as an alternative to group lessons for those who wish to work one-on-one with a coach.  Lessons can be customized to meet your swimming needs.  All sessions are one half hour.
